SIDDAL Moor's Chelsea Tensel starred for the North West under 14 basketball team at the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall.

The Year 9 student helped her team win an inter-regional contest for the ninth time in 10 years..

Chelsea's team was drawn in pool A along with the South East, Yorkshire and Humberside, London and West Midlands.

Playing at point guard - playmaker - she displayed great assurance for one so young, and guided her team to top place in the pool with four wins out of four.

The North-West began with a resounding 58-29 victory over the South East, the Heywood girl showing her blistering pace and exceptional rebounding ability.

The team followed up by crushing Yorkshire and Humberside 42-7, with Chelsea's defence prominent in this game.

London were beaten 59-2 and the the West Midlands were outplayed 50-12.

North West played the winners of pool B - the South - in the final.

Chelsea's range of passing helped set up numerous fast breaks as the smaller North West players proved far too quick for their opponents. They claimed a comprehensive 56-21 victory to lift the title.
