Hart's Grecian trip earns him a prize

30/ 7/2003

FOR five of the ABC Centreville members, last Saturday was one of the big ones in their time-trialling itinerary.

The Manchester and District Time Trial Association held the 50-mile championship around three laps of the Knutsford, Holmes Chapel Chelford course.

As the first few riders got away it finally started raining and by rider number 30 it was pouring down - not a good start to a two hour plus event for most of the field. However, all the Centreville riders stuck to their task and once more some excellent times were recorded.

Gorden Perry was slightly disappointed with his time of 2 hours 35 mins 38 secs, but for a rider who is 70 next month it was a worthy ride. John Burston was happy with a time of 2-18.52, his first ride at the distance for three years, while Dave Lowe blew a little on the third lap and his
2-14.43 didn't do him justice.

Rick Clough put in one of his usual fast rides. With a time of 1-55.16 he could have been expected to win, but it was only good enough for third place on the day. John Dance, who took his first win at 25 miles last week and was competing in his first event at 50 miles, flew round the course to beat Rick by five seconds with a time of 1-55.11 to take second place over all.

But neither of the Centreville riders could compete on the day with an outstanding performance by Stone Wheelers Barry Charlton who timed in with 1.51 to take the win.

Joe Hardman competing in a ten-mile time-trial on his favourite course at Pulford, North Wales, recorded a personal best time of 24.08 secs last Wednesday evening.

Lewis Hart's insistence he took his bike with him on his holiday to Greece paid off, as on his return this weekend he rode on a course near Keswick in a 10-mile time trial and recorded 24.56 secs, to clinch the fastest junior prize.
