Keith has sp-Arkell

Grandmaster Keith Arkell gave a chess simultaneous exhibition at the Heywood chess club last Tuesday.
Held at Hopwood Unionist club, Arkell played 19 players at the same time at different boards, including some of Heywood’s and Lancashire’s leading players.
His results were very impressive. Played 19, won 17, drew 1, lost 1.
Keith’s only draw from the junior simultaneous came against Martyn Hamer, although Harry Praeger, Michael Rabbitte and Brian Parkin took him very close.
The only victor was Mark Whitehead, who won a chess clock presented by the Heywood Chess Club.
Arkle received lots of praise. He was very professional throughout with a nice line in banter.
The chess season is well and truly under way now and players of any standard, from Grandmaster to beginner, are welcome at the club on Tuesdays, from 7.20pm onwards.
