HEYWOOD St James entertained Standians on Saturday.

It was nip and tuck as both teams went all out for a goal before Saints broke through, the industrious Simpson firing in from close range.

Standians responded to level the scores.

Saints restored their lead when Lynch latched on to a through ball from Bainbridge to score and give the home team a 2-1 interval lead.

In the second half, Saints went further ahead as excellent work by Carney set up Lynch for his second.

The visitors fought back and Saints’ goalkeeper Neil McNulty made a series of fine saves.

He was unable to prevent a second goal in the dying minutes but Saints held on for a well-deserved victory.

Man of the match for the Heywood side was McNulty.

On Saturday, Heywood St James are at home to Wilmslow Albion, kick-off 2pm. Players meet clubhouse at 12.45pm.

FC CROWN travelled to Trafalgar Old Boys on Sunday.

Crown started well but were caught out by a long ball which Trafalgar's striker duly converted.

This woke the visitors up and they played some great football. After keeping the ball for what seemed an eternity it was switched to Sugden on the right. He crossed for Buckley to crash a header into the net.

From the restart, Crown won the ball, it made its way to Tinker who ran past three opponents and sprayed the ball to Buckley. He finished comfortably to make it 2-1.

Crown were bombarding the Trafalgar goal and Mutch flicked the ball to Butler who volleyed home.

The second half started as the first ended with Crown on top. Flash broke forward from right back, cut inside and slotted the ball into the top corner for a 4-1 lead.

Crown continued creating chances but they failed to add to their tally.

Man of the match was Flash who put in a faultless display.

On Sunday FC Crown play The Pack Horse Goshen sports centre, Bury. Players meet 9.30am at the Crown.
