Super start to Super League

DARTS: HEYWOOD made a magnificent start to their Lancashire Super League second division campaign last Sunday by beating local rivals Blackley 8-2 at the Highlander.
Billy Brooks gave the team the perfect start, including a 15-darter in taking the opening set.
Although the visitors took the second, the next seven went to Heywood as Matt Langley, Tony Barnes, Carl Langley, Chris Jacques and Michael Ahern won by the odd leg in five. Darren Latham who hit a 180 in a 15-darter won 3-1, and Steve Cross won 3-0.
"It’s a great way to start the campaign because Blackley have some really good players. We just have to try and maintain this level," team manager Peter Rhodes enthused. The team’s next match is at Lancaster on 12 October.
Alan Traynor struck a 180 in the 5-2 defeat his Hare and Hounds team endured against the Heywood in the Heywood Summer League.
The Engineers enjoyed a 6-1 success against the Duke of Wellington while the Bay Horse beat St James FC 5-2.
Champions Duke of Wellington rounded off their Heywood Ladies Summer League campaign with a 6-0 whitewash of the Pig and Whistle. The Woolpack finished runners-up while, in the dominoes, the Stonemasons Arms are the champions.
