Heywood bottom out

DARTS: HEYWOOD lost 5-2 to Newton Heath at the Bay Horse on Sunday, their last game in the Greater Manchester Super League's first division.

The brace of consolation points for the team, which eventually finished bottom of the competitive five-team contest, came from Billy Brooks and debutant Alan Porter.

The only date left in the Greater Manchester summer calendar for the team is 28 September when the five-a-side knockout and individual knockout to take place in Moston.

The winter team, which plays in the second division of the Lancashire GMC Super League, starts on Sunday week, 7 September with a home derby at the Highlander against Blackley.

Mike Ahern and Paul Warburton were on the mark with 180s last week in the Heywood Men’s Summer League as they helped Brown’s Wine Bar to a 5-2 victory over the Heywood. They are four points behind Engineers, who beat Hare and Hounds by the same score.

The Duke of Wellington became champions of the Heywood Ladies Summer League with a 5-1 success at the Summit whose Sue Rawlinson hit the highest score of the week, 152. Irene Harris was not far behind with 146 for the Pig and Whistle, who lost 4-2 at the Bay Horse.

Three players struck three-figure scores for the Brown Cow, 5-2 winners against the Stonemasons - Julie McNeice (120), Maureen Brierley (108) and Jennie Niddrie (106).

TODAY is the last chance for teams to register for the forthcoming season i n the Admiral League.

The following teams from last season or who have shown an interest in joining are: Bay Horse, Duke of Wellington, Engineers, Heywood A, St James FC, Heywood B, Hopwood Uni, Browns, Reform.

No team will be accepted after the 11 September, in order that fixtures can be compiled to start on 2 October.

Completed sheets must be handed to Andrew Corns as soon as possible.
