Chess men are just champion

HEYWOOD Chess Club have had more success on the national stage.
Last Wednesday the club captured the 2008 Northern Counties chess club championship major trophy to become Northern champions.
They did so by defeating last year’s champions Atherton.
The team of three Rabbitte brothers - Dominic, Michael and Liam - plus captain and club secretary Bill O’Rourke, won the game in the last few minutes by 2.5 to 1.5.
"It’s a great success for the club," said Bill, "and even better next week when we try to make it a remarkable double in the Open Northern cup final against Preston."
