Silver medal for Heywood swimmer

HEYWOOD swimmer Keri-Anne Payne won an Olympic silver medal in the early hours of this morning.
The 20-year-old Stockport Metro swimmer was second in the gruelling 10km open water race behind the unbeaten world champion Larisa Ilchenko in Beijing.
The race in the Olympic rowing lake was only settled in the final few metres with Russian Ilchenko just touching out Payne after almost two hours of swimming.
Payne’s Stockport Metro team-mate Cassie Patten was third after the two Britons had led for most of the race.
