DARTS: HEYWOOD lost the match and top spot when they were edged out 4-3 in a thrilling encounter with Blackley (VASA).
Matt Langley lost the first game 3-2, but Michael Ahern beat Steve Round by the same margin to level the scores. Blackley again got their noses in front but the best match of the afternoon saw Heywood’s Scott Howarth come back from two legs down to win 3-2.
It was nip and tuck and Jimmy Phillips won to make it 3-3 and take the match to the wire. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as Blackley’s Jason Green took the final game to secure the win.
In the Heywood Ladies Summer League, Woolpack moved into top spot after beating bottom team Hark to Towler. Close rivals Stonemasons slip to second after a 3-3 draw against Brown Cow.
There was no change at the top of the Men’s League as Browns beat Hark to Towler 6-1.
There were 180s for Peter Rhodes (Hare and Hounds) and Engineers’ Mark Eccles.
Justin Ashton took out 86 with double one, double 17 and bull to steer The Heywood to a 4-3 victory over the Hare and Hounds.
