A NEW name has appeared in the sport of gymnastics - Heywood Sparks Gymnastics Academy, who opened their new facility at Roeacre Business Park in June.
In the club’s first ever competition six of their gymnasts won a total of 20 medals in the Greater Manchester Open Championships.
At level three Lauren Burke came third overall, she was first on Vault, second on Bars and third on Floor.
The FIG Espoir competition saw Amelia Cockayne-Seddon take second place overall, with first on Floor, and second on Vault, Bars, and Beam.
Charlotte Jackson finished third overall after taking second place on Floor and third on Beam, while Samantha McLennon-Greaves was third on Vault and Bars.
In the FIG Junior section Melissa Wells was third overall, second on Bars, and third on Beam. Sophie Thompson came second on Vault, third on Bars, and third on Floor. Sparks’ other competitor was Hannah Casey who finished eighth overall at level four.
Sparks’ Coaching Director Steve Halliwell said: "I am very pleased with the girls' performance, and we can already see their improvements since moving to our new, and much improved, facility."
