Heywood hit back for draw

DARTS: HEYWOOD came from 5-0 down on Sunday to gain a 5-5 draw with Clitheroe at the Stonemason’s Arms in the Lancs GMC Super League.

Chris Jacques and Paul Langford were among the losers despite Jacques hitting a 180 and, in one of his winning legs, a 120 checkout. Langford included a 180 in a 15-darter. Steve Cross, man of the match Darren Latham, Billy Brooks, Michael Ahern and Geoff Farrar knuckled down to earn the team a share of the spoils.

Chris Jacques teamed up with Duke of Wellington’s Ann Brady to win the Heywood Ladies League’s Mixed Pairs title after they got the better of Stonemasons’ Julie Bennett, 2-0, in the final.

Brady and Jacques beat Caroline Lloyd and Alex Rowan in the last four, the stage at which the Bennett pairing defeated 2007 champion Julie McNiece and Billy Brooks.

Heath Cook hit a 180 for the Highlander in the Enterprise Inns Heywood Men’s League KO final but he was, alongside Matt Langley, one of only two winners as they were beaten 4-2 by the Engineers.

Scott Howarth, Mark Eccles, Geoff Farrar and Gary Ashton entered the winners’ enclosure for the Engineers.

The dominoes title went to St James FC.

Darren Latham became the first qualifier for the Highlander Spring KO which is being held on Thursday evenings over a nine-week period.

Eight finalists will compete on May 22 when a £200 prize will await the winner. Entry per week, payable on the night, is £3. Strike out is 8.30pm.

The Holsten Qualifier for the Blue Square UK Open will take place tonight. Entrants for this knockout are reminded that the draw for opponents will take place at 8pm for an immediate start.

Anybody not present at the draw for opponents will be eliminated from the draw.

Do not turn up if you have no intention of attending the Regional Finals, which will be held on Saturday 10 or Sunday 11 May.
