ENTRIES are invited for the 2008 Rochdale Observer Men’s Bowls Tournament.
To qualify for entry you must be a registered member of a recognised bowling club which plays within the circulation area covered by the Rochdale Observer, Heywood Advertiser, or Middleton Guardian.
Juniors (under 18) will be allowed to enter, but they will not be allowed to enter both senior and junior contests.
Details of the junior contest, and a ladies’ contest, will be announced at a later date.
All games in the contest will be 21 up.
Every effort will be made to avoid someone bowling on his own green, but if this is unavoidable, homesters will give two and block start.
Dates of play will be:
Prelims and round one - Friday 23 May and Friday 30 May
Round two - Friday 6 June
Round three - Friday 13 June
Round four - Friday 20 June
Quarter-finals - Friday 11 July
Semi-finals and final - Saturday 19 July
No games will be played on Fridays 27 June and 4 July to avoid a clash with the old Rochdale holiday dates.
Practice on all dates down to the final will be 6.30 to 6.45pm for those in the top half of the draw, 6.45 to 7pm for those in the bottom half of the draw.
Start time down to finals day will be 7pm, strike-out 7.30pm.
Finals day (Saturday 19 July) will again be at Bamford Bowling Club with a 4.30pm start. The order of play will be ladies’ semi-finals, men’s semi-finals, junior final, ladies’ final, men’s final.
The entry fee for the men’s contest will be £3, and cheques should be made payable to MEN Media.

Closing date for entries will be Wednesday 14 May (entries will be accepted up to 5pm that day).
Bowlers should note that block entry forms will be circulated to all clubs.
ENTRIES are invited for a mixed pairs knockout at Bamford Bowling Club.
Qualifying dates are Saturdays 14, 21, 28 June and 5 July. The finals will be on Saturday 12 July.
