Diane wins Heywood Ladies’ title

12/ 3/2008

ENGINEERS’ Diane Lynch won the Heywood Ladies League individual title last week with a 2-0 victory over Kath Brady from the Duke of Wellington in the final.

Jaqui Goodwin (Stonemasons) and Mary Coates (Heywood A) were the beaten semi-finalists.

Mary Coates and Julie Bennett (Stonemasons) were beaten in the semi-finals of the pairs knockout by the Crown’s Ann Moscrop and Liz Fox, but they fell by the odd leg in three in the final to Summit hotshots Jane Cullen and Sue Rawlinson. Their semi-final victims were Vanessa Healey and Bev Price from the Reform Club.

Brown’s Wine Bar and the Engineers stayed joint top of the Enterprise Inns Heywood Men’s League, but the Wine Bar have two games in hand.

The Engineers enjoyed a whitewash 7-0 victory last week over the Summit.

The Heywood B won 6-1 at the Freemasons to join Grapes, who had no match, at the top of the second division.

That was the score by which second-bottom Starkey overcame the only team yet to win, Hark to Towler.

Heywood, unbeaten so far in 2008, make the trip to Lancaster on Sunday in the second division of the Lancashire GMC Super League.

They beat them 6-4 at the Stonemasons Arms in October and, with 7-3 victories over Longridge and Blackley, and a 5-5 draw with Southport behind them this year, they will be confident of achieving the double.
