Chris-p 180 not quite enough for Heywood

HEYWOOD went down to a 6-4 defeat at Little Hulton in their Lancashire GMC Super League second division match on Sunday, writes John Gwynne.

Chris Jacques hit a 180 as one of a quartet of successful players. He was accompanied into the winners’ enclosure by Jimmy Phillips, Paul Langford and Mike Ahern.

The licensee of the Engineers, Carl Helms, became the fifth player in the Admiral Taverns Heywood League to hit 180 this season. It came in the team’s 5-2 victory at the Bay Horse last week, an outcome which keeps his team in second place, two points behind Browns Wine Bar.

They came from 3-1 down against Highlander to maintain a perfect record – nine wins from nine outings – and probably end any title ambitions their defeated rivals might have harboured.

The Highlander, although still in third place, are six points behind Browns.

While bottom team Hare and Hounds have yet to pick up a point on the oche, they have the consolation of being at the top of the dominoes title race.

The Dressers beat the Pig and Whistle to stay top of the second division, two points ahead of the Reform Club, 4-3 winners against the Woolpack.

The Duke of Wellington’s stranglehold on the Heywood Ladies League first division continued with a 6-1 win against the Brown Cow, their 11th success in as many games.

Lowly Summit won for only the third time, by the odd set in seven against the Woolpack B team.

The Reform Club and Brown’s Wine Bar went joint top of the second division with wins against the Woolpack A and Hark to Towler respectively.
