Cash strapped Town team looking for sponsors

A BRILLIANT 152 checkout from Carl Langley highlighted the Lancashire GMC Super League match on Sunday between Heywood and Clitheroe.

But, he lost his game 3-1 as Heywood went down 4-1. The only success came from Mike Ahern.

Heywood go to Little Hulton on Sunday for a second division game and players are asked to meet at the Stonemasons at 11.15am.

The team is in need of sponsorship and delegate Peter Rhodes, who tells me funds are right down at the bottom of the bag, would like to hear from would-be helpers. He can be contacted on 0161 763 1398.

Browns Wine Bar made it eight wins from as many matches in the Admiral Taverns Heywood League when they beat the Cricket Club 4-3 last week. It was their fifth win on the trot by such a score and it keeps them two points ahead of second place Engineers, 5-2 winners against Hopwood Unionists.

The Dressers went clear at the top of the second division by beating Crown 4-3. The Woolpack beat the Pig and Whistle 4-3 to join them and the Reform Club in joint second place.

The Reform Club won 6-1 at the Tanners.

In the Heywood Ladies League, Duke of Wellington made it 10 wins from 10 games when they overcame Heywood A last week.

It was a close call, though, Sylvia Taylor having to win the decider.

The Duke are four points clear of the Stonemasons in the first division title race.

The Reform Club and Browns Wine Bar share top spot in the second division, following 4-3 victories over the Crown and Heap Bridge Social Club respectively.
