Team performance key for Roach under 9s

24/ 9/2008

ROACH Dynamos under 9s played brilliantly when they met Chadderton Grasshoppers Yellows at home on Saturday.

Dean Hussein opened the scoring in the first half from a well placed corner by Kai Miller and then scored his second also from a corner.

In the opening seconds of the

second half, Oliver Dobson made it three.

Roach continued to pile on the pressure and another corner from Hussein was headed home by Corey Marsh. Roach then became

complacent and, despite some great goalkeeping by Chris Brown, they conceded two goals.

Man of the match was not awarded as all of the players played equally well.

The under 16s kicked off their season with a 5-2 home victory over Castle Hill on Sunday. The first half finished 2-2 with goals for Roach from Tom Warwick and Danny Banks.

In the second half Roach stepped up a gear and dominated the last half hour. Three great finishes from Danny McHugh, Jack Kyle and Warwick, with his second, saw Roach run out comfortable winners.

Player of the match was Marcus Roberts for his relentless work in the centre of midfield.

The open age team played at home to league leaders Rossendale on Saturday, against a team that took six points off Roach last season. And with players missing the odds were stacked against the Heywood side.

Roach, though, started well, and it was clear from the first minute that it was going to be a tough match for both sides, especially when the home side took the lead courtesy of a great free kick from Ryan Allesandra. In the second half Roach had to weather the storm at times, but stand-in keeper and player of the match Max Law was outstanding.

The home side created chances as space opened up behind the Rossendale defence and should have killed the game off, but Roach were worthy of a hard earned three points and a well deserved victory.

BRIDGE COLTS under 8s A team made it two wins from two games with a 3-1 victory over Pennine.

In a comfortable first half, Bridge controlled the game with goals from Matt Findlow, Seb Marsi and Jack Wynn.

After the break Pennine pushed on and made the game a lot closer and got their rewards towards the end of the match with a goal. Bridge created more chances but failed to add to their first-half tally.

The under 10s B team cruised to an eight goal win over Westbury Storm. They dominated from the start with a very strong performance, and everyone contributed towards a very polished display.

Hopefully this was a sign of things to come for this highly competent Bridge team.

Goalscorers were Morgan Lang 2, Greg Guest 2, Mason Cleary 2, Luke Grocott 1, Ewan Fox 1.
Man of the match was Greg Guest.
