Prestwich CC 5-6 Woolpack FC

AFTER a convincing 10-0 home win against Cross Keys last week, Woolpack’s second league game produced another goal-packed game at Prestwich Cricket Club.

On an uncut pitch and with a stand-in official, provided by the hosts, both teams found it difficult to get going.

Woolpack edged ahead when Chadwick slotted home from close range.

Prestwich tried to rally but stern defence from Hughes, Brown and Braidwood kept them out.

Woolpack doubled their lead when Davies’ long-range effort gave the keeper no chance.

The home team continued to press and were rewarded with two goals in close succession to level the scores at half time.

Five minutes into the second half Woolpack regained the lead when Benson headed home. He then added two more to complete his hat trick; aided by fine balls from Hogey and Davies respectively.

With a comfortable lead Woolpack took their foot off the gas and Prestwich took advantage to again draw level at five all.

With two minutes remaining the Heywood side were awarded a free kick from which Rick Brown delivered a searching cross for Daz Lang to head in the winner.
