Colts' fitness tells in tournament

DESPITE unseasonal weather the annual Roach Dynamos tournament went ahead last month and great credit goes to the Roach organisers for ensuring the event was a complete success.

The Under 13s competition included teams from many parts of the UK and the standard of football displayed was extremely high.

The final between Bridge Colts and Bolton BSS took place after more than seven hours of competition.

Although both sides were clearly tired the players put on a great final played in an excellent spirit. Goals from Fieldhouse and Peters secured a 2-0 win for Bridge and ensured that they remain unbeaten in this tournament for more than three years.

The Bridge team powered home 25 goals throughout the day and conceded only two own goals in the process.

Everyone, from match officials, to opposing managers and Roach representatives agreed that Bridge deserved their victory.

Bridge assistant manager, Garry Plumpton said: "The deciding factors in our success was the fitness the lads had and their refusal to accept defeat. They are a credit to Bridge Colts JFC and their supportive parents."

Meanwhile, Bridge Colts Under 6s, pictured, recently entered the Radcliffe Borough FC Future Stars six-a-side tournament. Despite only having six players due to holidays (most other teams there had at least 10 players), they came joint top of their group, won their semi-final on penalties and then lost in the final 2-1 to Bromley Cross Aces in the last minute of extra time on the golden goal rule.

The team is just about to enter the North Bury Junior Football League at Under 7 level and the players are looking forward to a long and enjoyable football career as part of Bridge Colts Junior Football Club
