Ashlea aiming high

AS Heywood’s school leavers wait for their GCSE results, one teenager is hoping for results of a different kind.
Goalkeeper Ashlea Gotham, a former pupil of Holy Family College, has recently made his senior football debut for Glossop North End, who play in the North West Counties League.
After starting his career with Clarence Athletic under 10s, Ashlea went on to have a two-year spell with Stockport County.
Former coach at Clarence, Paul Hignett said: "Everyone at Clarence is over the moon for Ashlea. We knew we had a rising star when he played for us, and to see him starting on the professional ladder is no surprise."
Ashlea has now played two league games for Glossop and next up is a trip to Hereford, as Glossop start their FA Cup campaign.
He is hoping to go one better than another Heywood shot-stopper, Paul Gerrard and one day make his full England debut.
For now, though, he is just glad to be playing senior football.
