Colts entertain Spartans

BRIDGE Colts met Hamrun Spartans, based near Valetta, Malta on Monday at their Bamford base.

They played their 10s, 12s and 14s age groups in three matches.

Hamrun are in the UK to take part in the Manchester Cup, organised by Team Tours Direct from Swansea, with whom Bridge have a strong partnership link.

It was through this link that Bridge, who are an FA Charter Development Standard Club, were given this opportunity to play against one of the strongest clubs in Malta.

Hamrun start at four years of age and have teams through to open-age professional football.

Needless to say it was a fantastic experience for Bridge’s youngsters to play against this standard of opposition and, while they did not come out winning they will benefit from the experience.

It also helps Bridge see what they must aspire to if they are to become top Juniors, these matches were the equivalent of playing top professional academies from the UK.

None of the teams came off despondent or deflated, and none were heavily defeated or embarrassed, they were buoyant at having played a team from Europe and wanted to know more about them.

On Tuesday the under 9s, 10s, 11s and 13s entertained another Maltese Club, Pieta Hotspurs, who play in the same league as Hamrun, and who are also taking part in the same Manchester Cup.

This was a great experience and a chance for the two clubs to form a friendship and look to continue a relationship in the future.
