Deal flush out opposition to win

10/ 7/2008

ALL Souls Primary School held their annual ‘6 a-side 4 Dads’ day and raised £1,000 for the schools funds.

The event was organised by parent Paul Hughes and it attracted eight teams, all sponsored by local businesses and a Bolton company.

The weather played its part in making sure the day would run smoothly and the teams got under way battling for the Peter Rush Trophy.

The competition was a straight knockout which made for some exciting football.

Lancashire Wallpapers started things off with a 2-0 victory over Internet Pharmacy, although Pharmacy were unlucky to lose as they were denied a penalty and saw one of their shots hit the woodwork.

Simon Harry scored both goals for the Lancashire Wallpapers.

Initial Kitchens went a goal behind against Associated Contract Cleaning but fought back with three second half goals to go through to the semi-final.

Game three was full of action but neither Deal Plumbing nor Digby’s could find a way past the goalkeeper.

The final result came down to Danny Greenhalgh’s penalty conversion to seal victory for Deal Plumbing.

The final quarter-final match was between Crawford’s Appliances and the Albany Raiders. Crawford’s Mark Longshaw stole the show with a hat-trick which saw his side win 3-1.

The first semi-final game saw Initial Kitchens again come from behind to beat Lancashire Wallpapers 2-1 with the winning goal arriving in the last few seconds of extra time.

Deal Plumbings squeezed past Crawford’s Appliances with goals from Danny Greenhalgh to book a final spot.

Deal Plumbings got off to a flying start with Greenhalgh getting his fourth goal of the competition after nine minutes.

Finding themselves a goal behind, yet again, Initial Kitchens upped the tempo and pushed for an equaliser but failed to find one.

After an entertaining series Deal Plumbings received the trophy from sponsor Councillor Peter Rush.

Paul Hughes has organised this event for several years now and he was delighted with the success the six-a-side series has brought in boosting funds for the school.

He thanked the teams and bib sponsors, and gave a special thank you to referee Kevin Matthews and said: "His handling of the seven games, lasting 140 minutes in total, was first class".
