Clarence Athletic u16s 4 - 1 North Walkden u16s

Clarence went through to the semi final of the League Cup after a well-organised performance against very capable opponents.

The locals were quickly into their stride and went ahead on five minutes when Whitworth broke down a promising Walkden attack.  His crossfield ball to Bates was quickly played into the box, finding Liam Mott who ran on to slot past the keeper from 10 yards.

Chances came and went for both sides, but with Dale Latham and his back four in excellent form Clarence were always in control. And they increased their lead on the stroke of half time when an acrobatic overhead kick from Matty Mott crashed against the bar, the rebound met by Ridsdale who fired home from close range.

Within minutes of the restart, Clarence conceded a free kick on the edge of their area and were duly punished as their opponents scored to reduce the deficit.

The Heywood team, though, were soon back in control and with Mott in tremendous form and proving a handful for Walkden, it was only a matter of time before they scored again. The game was put to bed as Clarence added two goals in as many minutes.

Mott set up Heap who fired home, and then added number four, running on to a Ridsdale flick to coolly beat the keeper.

This was a great team effort from Clarence with everyone working hard for each other. Stand-out performances came from the Mott brothers, Liam and Matty, both of whom were outstanding throughout.
