Rain stops play - again!

3/ 4/2008

ONCE again Heywood Reform’s attempts to alleviate the club’s fixture congestion problem was sunk without trace as match official Alan Wilkinson had no option but to call off their Challenge Cup quarter final at a flooded Heywood Sports Centre on Sunday morning.

The postponement increases Reform’s backlog of fixtures and it creates massive problems for Adrian Powell, the Bury and District SFL’s fixture secretary.

"It’s becoming a nightmare," said Reform secretary Dennis Booth, "The Millenium Cup final has been fixed for Sunday 20 April at Gigg Lane but there is still an outstanding quarter final to play.

"That will have to be played on Sunday 6 April and the semis will follow on 13 April."

Heywood Club the Duke of Wellington are eagerly awaiting the outcome as they of these matches, as they reached the final by beating Prestwich CC, AFC United, Footballers Inn and Waggonmakers.

The Duke could also reach the Challenge Cup final if they overcome Prestwich CC in the semi and, as current Division One leaders, they too will encounter fixture congestion.

"It’s going to be a busy April for all concerned," added Booth, "not forgetting Adrian Powell. Let’s hope that April showers don’t come our way and all fixtures can be completed on schedule with Heywood club’s leading the way."

At the time of going to press Reform’s match on Sunday is yet to be confirmed. It seems likely, however, it will be the rearranged match against Elton Vale at Heywood Sports Centre, kick-off 10.30am. Players meet 9.30am.
