Wright hat trick sees Roach end on a high

19/ 3/2008

ROACH Dynamo under sevens travelled to play Radcliffe Borough in their last game of the season, hoping to finish on a high.

Roach were the stronger team, with midfielders Sam Mather, Harrison Kilroy and Harry Roche working hard to win everything and create some good chances.

After 10 minutes of domination Mather put the ball into the path of Daniel Wright who slotted it into the bottom corner of the net.

Roach continued to attack, and Curtis Rowlands’ defence-splitting pass put Wright clear to smash home his second.

Radcliffe came out fighting after the interval and pinned Roach back in their own half.

Keeper Niall Barnes and defenders Lee Bagshaw and Mitchell Clarke worked hard, but the home team eventually pulled a goal back.

The visitors kept their heads, and a great ball from Roche put Wright in to round the last defender and coolly place the ball past the goalkeeper for his hat-trick.

Roche scored Roach’s fourth with a low drive from outside the box, and it finished 4-1.

Meanwhile, Roach under 16s travelled to Ramsbottom and came away with three points from an epic game.

Roach had several chances in the first half but could not capitalise on them.

Ramsbottom took the lead against the run of play, but an equaliser came just before half time when Danny Wolstenholme scored with a cracking volley.

Wolstenholme scored again early in the second half, then Andrew Illingworth made it 3-1.

Ramsbottom replied within two minutes, but Jamie Diamond scored two in eight minutes to give Roach what looked like a comfortable lead.

Ramsbottom did score two late goals, but Roach were more than worthy of their 5-4 win.
