Hooley Bridge 2nd 1 - 1 Burnage
5/ 3/2008
HOOLEY Bridge Celtic 2nd entertained Burnage in the Wray Cup and crashed out on penalties.
Both teams started well but Burnage took the lead with good football and a close-range shot that stand in keeper Parkinson could do little to stop.
The visitors tried to build on their lead but with the returning Whiteledge and the ever-present Keogh and Mack in defence back to their best Celtic were in no mood to concede again.
Celtic continued to play some slick football and were denied by the in-form Burnage keeper, who pulled off great saves from Risdale and Carden.
Deep into the second half, the home team got a well-deserved equaliser when Keogh fired home an unstoppable 25-yard free kick.
With the scores level after 90 minutes the game went into extra time with both teams looking for the winning goal.
It didn’t come and penalties decided the match. Celtic failed to convert three and Burnage booked their place in the next round of the cup.
Celtic, though, were unlucky not to get a win.
Best on the day for the home team was Tom Feighan.
