Roach unfortunate in Bridge defeat

28/ 2/2008

ROACH Dynamos under sevens travelled to play unbeaten Bridge Colts and were unfortunate to come away empty handed.

They started well, with midfielders Sam Mather, Daniel Wright and Harry Roche matching Bridge for strength and skill and creating some good chances.

Bridge, unbeaten all season, were kept out by solid defending by Lee Bagshaw, Curtis Rowlands and Mitchell Clark, but they scored just before the interval.

In the second period, Wright and player-of-the-match Clark went close to equalising, but the Bridge goalkeeper was in fine form, and before long the home side scored a scrappy goal to double their lead.

Roach again went close, but Bridge scored a third to seal the game.

The under 13s got back to winning ways on Sunday with a thumping 11-1 victory over Broughton FC.

Roach were always in control but were guilty of complacency in the first half. The goals were scored by Sean Bamforth (4), Joe Leary (2), Ryan McSweeney, Kieran Burns, Matty Bell,

Liam Mottershead and Mark McKnight - his first in three years.

Player of the match was Sean Bamforth who was outstanding up front and capped a terrific display with four well-taken goals.

Roach under 15s got out of jail on Sunday with a 3-2 victory at home to Castle Hill.

Ten man Castle Hill twice took the lead after good passing moves, but Roach hit back immediately after each goal with great finishes from Danny Banks and Adam Thomas.

The second half saw chances squandered by both sides and it was left to Adam Thomas to latch on to a route one kick from goalkeeper Dominic Kay and snatch victory with a neat finish.

Player of the match was Danny Banks for a tireless display up front and in midfield.

The under 16s travelled to Seedfield with a full squad on Sunday and took the game to the home side.

Some of the early football was excellent, and after 13 minutes a great finish from Danny Wolstenholme gave Roach the lead.

Jamie Diamond, who was tremendous in the Roach midfield, doubled the lead before the interval.

Roach defended well, and the centre back pairing of Adam Rowles and player of the match Lewis Forshaw looked solid until the home side pulled back a goal in the second half.

The points were on the way back until the last minute when an error allowed Seedfield to break, and a good finish made it 2-2.
