Dukinfield 2 Heywood St James 1

HEYWOOD St James travelled to Dukinfield for a league match and returned pointless, having failed to take their chances.

The hosts were first to settle and the Saints had goalkeeper Tom Elford to thank for a series of fine saves.

Dukinfield opened the scoring when a looping header eluded Elford.

Five minutes later, Dyson was unlucky to concede a penalty but, once again, Elford came to the rescue with super save.

Just before the break, Dukinfield doubled their tally and the Heywood team had it all to do.

Their response, though, was superb and they looked a different team in the second half.

Jack Nicholson and Carney bossed midfield, well supported by the reliable Rhys Reid.

Benson pulled one back for Saints with a superb strike and, as they pushed forward, Elford was again at his best to prevent Dukinfield from sealing the win.

The visitors continued to press and created chances galore, but poor finishing let them down.

Saints man of the match was Elford.

On Saturday, Saints entertain Derbyshire team Chapel Town at Phoenix Park.
