Oldham 1 Hull City 1

29/ 7/2008

GOALKEEPER Mark Crossley staked his claim for the No 1 jersey as Oldham held Premiership new boys Hull City to a deserved draw at Boundary Park last night.

The veteran 39-year-old showed his class with two fine early saves.

However, Crossley had no chance to stop Hull taking a 39th minute lead.

A cross from Craig Fagan left Caleb Folan with a free header and the £1m signing from Wigan made no mistake.

Oldham almost equalised on the stroke of half-time but Demar Phillips’ shot was just wide.

Crossley again kept Oldham alive when he beat out a 53rd minute shot from Brazilian striker Geovanni, a free transfer recruit from Manchester City.

The hosts then hit back to draw level on 70 minutes. A Neal Eardley free-kick was touched on by Chris Taylor and Lewis Alessandra slipped the ball home from close range.

With John Sheridan as manager, the latics need a great goalkeeper. Bring back Ronnie Moore!

Crossley was amazing, especially his ability to magically transform into Scottish U21 goalkeeper Greg Fleming for the second half.
