HEYWOOD professional Ruvin Peiris passed on his skills to youngsters at a summer school held at the club this week.

Despite the inclement weather, the 26 would-be cricketers were put through their paces as they practised a variety of skills.

And, no doubt, they will be hoping to emulate Heywood first teamers Tom Hardman and Danny Pawson who starred in the Central Lancashire League under 18s six-wicket victory over the Bolton League on Sunday.

Hardman took three for three as the opposition were bowled out for 88.

Wicketkeeper Pawson scored a valuable 32 not out to add to his two catches and two stumpings, and was named man of the match.

This weekend could be make or break for Heywood’s title hopes.

On Saturday, they travel to Glebe Street to take on second-place Crompton who are also challenging for a top-place finish.

They are always a difficult team to beat on home turf and Heywood will need to be fully focused.

On Sunday, Norden make the short journey to Crimble and after a recent slump they will be determined to get their season back on track.

Supporters are reminded wickets are pitched at 1.30pm.

Once again Heywood are grateful to Mike Goldrick Blinds for their magnificent support; they are sponsoring the derby against Norden.

And the Manchester City Supporters Club, Heywood Blues, have agreed to sponsor the club’s under 11s for next season, much to the delight of the Crimble club.
