New season starts in earnest

BIWATER Heywood Cricket Club are hoping for a spot of sunshine this weekend as they begin a round of friendlies in readiness for this year’s season, which begins on Sunday 20 April.

On Saturday the Crimble will pitch wickets for the first time this year as the first eleven entertains Rawtenstall and on Sunday Rishton pay a visit to Heywood. The second eleven on Sunday are away at Bury.

Tickets are also on sale for this year’s pre-season dinner which is to be held on Friday 25 April in the pavilion.

Guest speaker is former media manager for the rugby football league and rugby league correspondent for the Daily Mirror John Huxley.

Laughs will be provided by comedian Tom Pepper. Tickets are £25 and the price includes a three-course dinner.
