High winds scupper Advertiser skydive

HIGH winds meant the Advertiser Skydive planned for Saturday had to be aborted.

Advertiser staff Vicki Holman and Michael Byrne were due to take the St Patrick's Day Plunge for the Mayor's Charities Appeal.

The brave duo had to get up before dawn to travelled to the Black Knights Parachute Centre, near Lancaster, for the jump.

Mayor Jean Hornby, her consort Barrie and Advertiser editor Paul Harrison also made the journey but staff told them the jump would have to be postponed because of the weather.

It has been re-arranged for Friday, April 13.

Michael, the Advertiser's deputy editor, said: "Vicki and I were very disappointed that the jump had to be postponed, but at least this will give us the chance to raise some more money."

So far Michael and Vicki have raised about £4,000 for the mayor's chosen charities, which are the mental health charity Mind and Scope, which helps people with cerebral palsy.
