Double the fun

21/ 2/2007

THE Heywood Advertiser Skydive Appeal has been given a double boost.

Heywood Rotary Club has given the appeal £200 while Co-op Funeralcare has stumped up £100.

The total raised by Advertiser staff Michael Byrne and Vicki Holman for the Mayor's Charities Appeal now stands at just over the £3,500 mark.

Michael, the Advertiser's deputy editor, and reporter Vicki are taking the St Patrick's Day plunge to raise cash for Mind and Scope.

These are the charities mayor and Heywood North councillor Jean Hornby has chosen to support for her year as the borough's first citizen.

Vicki said: "We're really pleased the money keeps coming in for these two very worthy causes."

There is just over three weeks to go to help Vicki and Michael get over the £4,000 barrier.

"If anyone wants to help, there are other collection points and sponsor sheets at the Advertiser office, the hat hire stall on Heywood Market, Sole Mates shoe shop, the Country Kitchen Cafe, and Greenwoods Bakery.

They can also ring Vicki or Michael on 01706 360626, or they can pop some loose change into the collection pots at the Brown Cow or Browns No1.

Cheques can also be sent, payable to The Mayor's Charities, via her secretary Rina Paolucci at the Town Hall, Rochdale OL16 1AB.

Please mark the cheque Advertiser Skydive.

Please remember that £440 has to be taken off the final amount raised to pay for the cost of the jump.

THE message will be getting across loud and clear from Advertiser staff Vicki Holman and Michael Byrne with their new Jumping for Jean T-shirts.

The daredevils are getting ready for their skydive and have had eyecatching T-shirts made to tell the world what they are doing.

The T-shirts were printed free of charge at Peopleprint, based on Kirkholt in Rochdale, and feature the logos of the Heywood Advertiser, our parent company MEN Media and Andrew Kelly Estate Agents, a major sponsor of the event.

Peopleprint offers a wide range of training schemes from graphic design to film-making as well as silkscreen printing.

Youngsters go there on work experience and staff members Christine Tallboys-Smith and Dawn Chadwick do a lot of work with community groups.

Michael Byrne said: "Vicki and I are very grateful to Dawn and Christine for printing the T-shirts free of charge."
