Horror attacks murder charge

A MAN has been charged with murder and attempting to kill another four people after weekend attacks.
Thomas Dooley, 45, is accused of strangling Susan Crane in Grosvenor Street on Saturday night and also stabbing a 69-year-old woman at her home a few doors away.
The pensioner has been named locally as Marlene Phillips, who is in a stable condition in hospital.
Dooley, of Grosvenor Street, is also alleged to have stabbed a 50-year-old man in the neck after a confrontation on Bury Old Road earlier the same night, and driving a car into a 43-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man, leaving them with leg injuries.
Dooley was due to appear before Rochdale magistrates to answer the charges on Wednesday.
Neighbours have reacted with shock and told of the horror of the incidents.
Anne Horan, who also lives on Grosvenor Street, said: "It was awful. I have never seen anything like it in my life."
