'It's a Knockout' for uglies ronnie and jeff

BEING game for a laugh earned the Three Terriers 'ugly landlord' a TV appearance and a place among Hall's Heroes.
Former It's a Knockout and North West Tonight presenter Stuart Hall visited the Bridge Street pub last week as part of his "Hall's Heroes" series on cable station Channel M.
The programme features local people who have contributed in some way to their community and this week it took a light-hearted turn as Stuart dropped in for a chat with Jeff Armitage who was last week nominated as Heywood's ugliest landlord.
By coincidence, Ronnie Stott, steward at Heywood Cricket Club was drinking in the pub at the time and made his own TV appearance when those at the bar were asked to do a spot of gurning.
What he didn't know was that the club's overseas amateur, Australian batsman Royce Blight, had been on to the Advertiser to submit his own nomination for the 'honour' - Ronnie.
He too displayed a sense of humour and admitted that since his tooth dropped out four or five weeks ago, leaving a big black gap, Royce was not too far off the mark.
"It doesn't look too good at the moment," he said, "But it's not easy to find a dentist round here so it has stayed like that for quite a while."
But it will take more than a tongue-in-cheek nomination to put Ronnie off the town - he said he loves his job behind the bar and after a tough stint a Kirkholt Working Men's Club he described it as a dream.
So we now have two contenders for the town's ugliest landlord but do either of them really deserve to take the title? Has the Advertiser overlooked any potential candidates?
