Appeal for stolen laptop holding family treasures

A LAPTOP computer containing treasured family photographs was one of many things stolen during a burglary in Summit.

Yvonne and Derek Hunt were devastated when they discovered the theft, which occurred around 3am on Saturday on Wilson Avenue while the couple were asleep upstairs.

The laptop which was taken contained precious photographs of Yvonne’s mother who passed away last year, including the only pictures of the remembrance ceremony held for her, as well as years of genealogy research into the family tree.

Other items taken in the raid included several rings, including a one of a garnet set in rose gold given to Yvonne as a 21st birthday gift, and a pair of designer sunglasses.

The couple contacted the Advertiser as they are desperate to warn others to be on their guard for intruders in the area and also to reclaim any of their stolen property.

Yvonne, who works at Hopwood Hall College, said: "I am devastated to have lost the photos of the family trip to Wardle where we planted a tree in memory of my mum, it was a lovely service and they were the only pictures.

"When someone has been in your house and gone through all your possessions it really affects you, I can’t sleep at night now."

Police Inspector Darrell Butterworth said: "Summit and Hopwood are our hot spots for burglary at the moment. We have additional resources in those areas and a number of arrests have been made in the last seven days.

"Those people arrested will have a number of offences put to them."
