Town shows its kind heart

KIND-hearted animal lovers have helped the RSPCA raise an astonishing £2,000 towards vet’s bills for Meg.

Volunteers were out collecting in force for RSPCA week and on the first day managed to raise £800 to help pay for operations on Meg’s broken hind leg.

Generous shoppers at Morrisons, Dunnes, Tesco Express and Magic Market all chipped in to add to the total throughout the week.

RSPCA shop manager Alison Tomlin said: "We collected more on the first day than in the whole of last year’s collection and the response has been unbelievable.

"People have been coming into the shop giving us cheques to help pay for Meg’s treatment and also donating when they’re out shopping.

"People who donated at the beginning of the week were coming in and donating again at the weekend. They have been so generous and we are really amazed and grateful.

"All the retailers have been fantastically helpful in letting our volunteers collect there so I would like to thank them."

The total fund for Meg looks set to rise again throughout May as RSPCA volunteers take on sponsored challenges.

Dedicated helpers at the shop Bryan Tomlinson, James McGovern and Michael Wigglesworth are braving the pain as they have their legs waxed on Saturday 24 May, with Bryan going one step further a few days later by also getting his head shaved.
