Top award for Advertiser

11/ 4/2008

THE Heywood Advertiser has been commended at a national celebration of regional press journalism.

The Advertiser scooped the Silver Award in the Community Newspaper of the Year category at the Newspaper Society's Circulation, Editorial and Promotions Awards 2008 at Crewe Hall on Thursday night.

The main award went the Weston & Somerset Mercury but the Advertiser was still picked out for its work on Heywood Heroes and the fundraising for the mayor's charities in 2007.

Advertiser editor Paul Harrison was at the awards dinner in Cheshire to pick up the accolade.

He said: "Although disappointed to miss out on the Gold Award, I am proud that the work we did in Heywood last year has been recognised at a national level.

"Hopefully, we can continue the good work and take the main prize next year."

Newspaper Society director David Newell said: "This year's awards ceremony was an extremely well-attended event that showcased just some of the many successes achieved by NS members during the past 12 months.

"The quality of work from the circulation, editorial and promotions departments has proved to be outstanding yet again."
