Playtime bid needs backing

POT Hall Tenants’ and Residents’ Association is urging people to back its bid for a play area for local children.

The association wants to create a play area on the land off Greenfield Court for children aged between two and 15 and is keen to hear people’s views on the project.

The land is currently used by Harwood Park Primary School and the residents’ association would be working closely with the school to make sure the new playground benefited both parties.

The playground, which would be partly funded by the council and Rochdale Federation of Tenant and Resident Associations (ROFTRA), would include swings, slides and an all-weather sports pitch.

Chairwoman of the Pot Hall Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, Margaret Sweetman, said: "There are no facilities whatsoever for children in the area.

"For the past 18 months we have been working closely with children in the area with play days, crafts, street games and the play truck.

"We would like a playground similar to the one recently created at Hopwood, it makes you think, ‘if they can do it then why can’t we?’

"We want to consult with everyone in the area and find out their opinion on the playground at our annual meeting on 14 April at 7pm, in The Heywood pub."

Hi I am an old resident from Heywood area and I was their in september of 07 and I brought my teenage boy's with me to Heywood. They were bored their because there was nothing for them to do. So I think Margart is right the kid's need something there, for them to play. Also I think the council should build a skateboard area for the teenagers. Here is Australia we have in door skate parks which the kid's can use. I think the teenagers of Heywood would love it, but so would the resident's because the teenagers would be off the streets and buring up some un used energy. You might find the crime might go down too as the youth would not be bored. Good on you Margaret :) Lee
