Hunt is on again for town's finest

16/ 1/2008

THE search is back on to find Heywood’s Heroes. Once more we have teamed up with Heywood Rotary Club and New Heart for Heywood to honour three of the town’s unsung heroes.

Last year’s inaugural awards were a huge success and we are hoping this year’s will be even better.

We want to reward the people who make a difference to other people’s lives at a presentation evening at the Civic Centre on Friday 20 June.

But to do that we need your nominations for a Man of the Year, a Woman of the Year and a Young Person of the Year.

To be eligible for the awards, nominees must have made a significant contribution to Heywood life, not be connected in any way to any of the three award-sponsoring organisations, be over the age of 18 for adults and under 18 for young persons and, if nominated for service to community or for volunteering, they shall not have received payment.

We will feature all the nominees in the Advertiser with an eventual shortlist, being voted for by our readers, going to the judging panel.

Last year’s man and woman of the year, Mike Huck and Betty Fisher, will be on the panel along with representatives from Heywood Rotary, New Deal, Heywood Township and ex-St Joseph's RC High School head boy Mark Lord.

Any money raised from the presentation will go to charity.

So it is now down to you, the people of Heywood, so please fill in the form on this page and send it back to us at; Heywood Heroes, 28 Bridge Street, Heywood, OL10 1JB.

Feel free to nominate more than one person.

Let’s once more show pride in our town and the people who make such a difference to it.

wishing you all the best in your search for this years Heywood heroe. I was nominated last year and really enjoyed being part of such a wonderful event. I was privalaged to be part of the evening along with frienda and work mates we all enjoyed a good meal and social gathering. The winners all had contributed well to our community as did the heroes that didnt get first second or third. I would think the judges hard a very difficult time in selecting the top three well done. Hope this year is as good as the last year if not better Jenny Kennedy
