Head pleased by nativity filming news

HEAD teacher Peter Baddeley has welcomed news that parents can’t be banned from filming school nativity plays.

In recent years some head teachers have wrongly claimed that the Data Protection Act prohibts family members from taking photographs or filming Christmas plays.

But the Wilmslow-based Information Commissioner’s Office, which oversees the 1998 act has issued a guidance note to clear up any confusion im advance of this year’s round of nativity plays.

Mr Baddeley, head of St Luke’s CE Primary School, said: “We have to balance the children’s security with common sense. Nativity plays are a celebration and parents should be allowed to film them.”
