Celebrating victory in Europe
by Riazat Butt5/ 5/2005
VICTORIA Baths is inviting people to take a
trip back to the 1940s in true swing style. On Sunday the landmark
venue is bringing back fond memories by holding a 1940s tea dance -
like the ones it was famous for during its heyday - with period
fashions and a swing band playing music from the era.
Visitors will be given a ration book on entry, which they can
exchange for themed wartime food such as Spam sandwiches and cup
cakes.
Dance teachers will be on hand to help people brush up on their
Square Tango, Fox Trot or even Mississippi Dip and memorabilia of
bands such as Percy Peases' band, which played the Baths all those
years ago, will line the dance hall.
The event runs from 2pm until 6pm and tickets are £5 in advance, £6
on the door and £2.50 for children from the Victoria Baths
office.

Manchester's
Arndale Centre is home to an
exhibition that forms part of Their Past Your Future, a £10m, one
year programme of commemorative and educational events led by the
People's History Museum to mark VE Day.
The exhibition has been developed from personal stories revealing
how wartime experiences changed people's lives and how people
remember those they lost.
It is designed to encourage visitors to explore what they can learn
from the Second World War from their local landscape, veterans,
family and friends, and to highlight the ongoing significance sixty
years on.
During the next four weeks the exhibition, organised by the
People's History Museum, will be supported by a number of events
and activities.
Their Past Your Future can be seen in the Arndale Centre's Halle
