Angela Kelly18/11/2008
AN exploration of the one-act operas of Rachmaninoff is continued at a concert by the BBC Philharmonic at Bridgewater Hall on Friday, November 21.
The Miserly Knight will be presented under conductor Gianandrea Noseda and go out live on BBC Radio 3 at 7pm.
At the event, supported by the Rachmaninoff Foundation, they will also reprise their acclaimed Proms’ performance of the First Symphony.
The all-male cast will be led by bass Ildar Abdrazakov (Baron) with Misha Didyk as Albert, Sergey Murzaev as the Duke, Gennadi Bezubenkov as Servant and Peter Bronder singing the Moneylender.
Gianandrea embarked on his exploration of the Rachmaninoff operas with the BBC Philharmonic with Francesca da Rimini last year, and their recording for Chandos was widely well-received. The performance will be preceded at 6pm by a discussion about the opera’s history, hosted by the London Evening Standard’s opera critic Fiona Maddocks and theatre director Roger Haines.
