FESTIVAL: Becks Fusions, Castlefield Arena, Manchester, Fri 5 and Sat 6 Sep

MASSIVE Attack will headline a three-day outdoor music and arts festival in Manchester.

The trip-hop pioneers will perform at Beck’s Fusions, which is taking place in the Castlefield Arena from September 4-6.

It is one of only three British dates the band will play this year.

The band will headline on the final day – Saturday – supported by Santogold, Midnight Juggernauts, Das Pop, Phantom Limb and DJ Mike Pickering.

Tickets for that night, as well as the Friday, were allocated via a random ballot on the Beck’s website and drawn last week.

Massive Attack’s set is a collaboration with United Visual Artists, which is being billed as "a unique cinematic fusion of beats and moody visuals’.

The two acts have spent a year developing a light show that works in rhythm with the music.

Text and political messages will also be projected on the stage.

Keri Elmsly, of UVA, said: "Lots of our work involves bringing arts and music together and as a collective we’re firm believers in the intrinsic relationship the two have.

"This project is great because it recognises this and offers the opportunity to present something really new, building on our collaborative relationship with Massive Attack."

The festival is being billed as a collaborative event that will turn the arena into ‘a playground for urban art’.

Friday’s line-up includes Hercules and Love Affair, The Presets, Sonny J Live, Cicada, Elektrons, Tokyoblu and Mechanical Owl.

Thursday is non-ticketed. Visitors will be able to interact with art installations, watch short films and listen to DJ sets.

Food and drink will be available.
