Mad about Eurovision?

Angela Kelly

IN THE week counting down to the kitsch and camp delights of Eurovision there’s the chance to enjoy an award-winning smash-hit show all about it.

The north west premiere of Eurobeat – Almost Eurovision (Sarajevo) takes place at The Lowry, hosted by seasoned telly comics Mel Giedroyc and Gareth Hale.

Welcome to Sarajevo, where Boyka (Giedroyc) and Sergei (Hale) are in charge of this Euro-phoric competition. Introduced on-screen by the King of Eurovision himself, Sir Terry Wogan, this is a high-energy musical like no other, packed with hilariously satirical songs, glamorous costumes and crazy contestants.

Terry is delighted to be associated with the show. The 69-year-old presenter says: "I was more than happy to get involved with Eurobeat. It’s been a tremendous laugh.

"As you enter the theatre for Eurobeat, you’re given a country to represent and you can’t vote for that nation.

"Mind you, if you’re from Scandinavia or the Balkans, you might take an entirely different view. At this stage show, you get a great flavour of the fun and the enthusiasm of the real Eurovision Song Contest."

Audiences are whipped into a nil-points frenzy as 10 countries compete for their vote with completely original spoof songs in an entertaining interactive musical.

Enjoy tactical voting to your heart’s content as you back your favourite entrant via text message to choose a different winner every night. And avid fans of the Euro-extravaganza on the Saturday night can enjoy twice the fun by setting their videos or digital recorders to capture the genuine TV version.

Or, join the cheering and flag-waving crowds by watching the results of the actual contest in The Lowry’s Terrace Bar afterwards.

Eurobeat – Almost Eurovision (Sarajevo) runs from Monday to Saturday. For tickets ring 0870 787 5793.
