DRAMA: Black Watch, The Pie Factory, from Wednesday

29/ 4/2008

THE unique studio setting of the Pie Factory on Salford Quays is the venue for an award-winning play.

Black Watch is presented by the National Theatre of Scotland following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and performances in New York, Los Angeles and Australia.

Audiences have been enthralled by the play, which hurtles from a pool room in Fife to an armoured wagon in Iraq. It's an inventive and urgent piece of theatre, based on interviews conducted by writer Gregory Burke with former soldiers of the Black Watch regiment.

Viewed through the eyes of those on the ground, it reveals what it means to be part of the legendary Scottish regiment, how it feels to be part of the war on terror, and then coming home.

The play is most suitable for those aged 16 and over, and contains strong language, loud explosions and strobe lighting.

It runs from Wednesday to Saturday. For tickets ring The Lowry box office on 0870 787 5790.
